Meet The Author
One Book Update (January 2010)

The 2009 edition of Richardson Reads One Book was a success. Author David Relin made several appearances. The Richardson Woman's Club hosted a luncheon where Dr. Dennis Kratz, Dean of Humanities at UTD, engaged Mr Relin in a wide ranging conversation. First Community Bank hosted a reception for the author and major donors to the One Book program. Richardson High School hosted the public lecture by Mr Relin that was attended by about 1,500. David Relin's final appearance was with a group of 200 students in the Richardson High School's Black Box theater. In addition to these appearances there were many small group meetings around Richardson where folks discussed the book Three Cups of Tea.

Richardson High School Student Council members were inspired to participate in the Central Asia Institute's Pennies for Peace fund raising effort. The Pennies for Peace program seeks to provide educational opportunities for youth in Afghanistan and Pakistan. Richardson's Pearce High School has now taken up this same effort. They have titled their project “Building Futures Brick by Brick”. Their goal is to collect $25,000 to build, staff, and stock a school in a remote area of Pakistan or Afghanistan. Please see the linked documents for more information about this project.
